TEAM CARBO and the ONAGER, from Raleigh NC

Saturday Oct. 7 and Sunday Oct. 8 Punkin’ Chunkin’ World Champion “Team Carbo of Raleigh, NC will be demonstrating their catapult, The Onager, and slinging pumpkins up to half mile! Team Carbo took second place at World Championships in Delaware in 2016 with a throw of 2,786 feet. Some say it’s the team, others say it’s the machine, but Susan Sink, Owner of Sinkland Farms, says it’s the pumpkins that have “gone the distance.” White pumpkins are grown at Sinkland Farms, the preference of most catapult teams. All varieties, shapes, colors and sizes of pumpkins, squash and gourds are grown on the farm for sale during the autumn season.

Ride-A-Rescue Horse

Ride a Rescue HorseEvery Weekend – $10 per trail ride

Horse Trail Rides will be offered by Winterfrost Farm on two weekends! Their Ride-A-Rescue horseback riding program was started to help support their rescue horses, as part of their rehabilitation. Ride-A-Rescue trail rides use only healthy rescue horses eager and ready to work. This program was designed to be a fun community activity that is helpful for the horses as well. Not only do our customers get to enjoy their ride, but will also give a horse that once had no future, a job and a purpose. All proceeds go towards the horses’ care. How’s that for a win-win?

Anyone can ride. Winterfrost Farm specializes in beginners of all ages. Their horses are gentle and calm. Before every ride they have a five minute “lesson” to show you the ropes. ARRIVE EARLY and check for pricing.

ART IN THE BARN!

Oct. 7th & 8th – Donna Jones
Donna Jones is a native from VA. She started painting when she was 11 years old. Taking private art from Mrs. Marie Utt Hoal who was an artist and art teacher from the school that Donna attended. As time went by, Donna went on to get married, have 5 children and became a nurse. Painting went by the wayside for over 30 years. Last year, Donna picked up the paint brush again, and since then she has sold some of her paintings, gave some to different causes to be auctioned and tried to encourage those who have lost loved ones to Alzheimer’s Disease by giving them a painting in memory of their loved one. She enjoys painting, and hopes to one day be a recognized artist.

She will have prints of a new painting of Sinkland Farms for purchase and to be signed. The proceeds will go to Feeding America of Southwest Virginia. The artist P. Buckley Moss was asked how long it takes for her to paint a picture. “My whole life,” she said. For Pat, it is this lifelong passion and belief that is expressed in her work, giving us a collection of art that is filled with a lifetime of experiences: from her Irish-Italian heritage to her urban art school education, the laughter of her children, and the simplicity of birds flying south for the winter.
